HV10 Playback
Hello, everybody!
I am curious about the Canon HV10's playback ability for editing and transfer purposes. Obviously, it can play back 1080i and DV video (is this 480i or 480p?) since that is what it records in. But let's say somebody gives me a MiniDV tape recorded in 720p. Will the camcorder be able to play it back? What about other formats? And, is playback separate from capture to computer? Like, for example, can all of the various formats (480i, 480p, 720i, 720p, 1080i, etc.) and frame rates (24, 30) be played back and captured? Man, I hope all this makes sense. Please advise if you can! Thank you! -Scott J. Davis |

Sorry but there is no 720p playback capability on any Canon HDV camcorder.

HV10 Capture
What about capturing 720p video to the computer via Firewire or some other capability?
And with the DV (480) is that 480i, 480p, or can it handle both? -Scott |

In order to capture 720p video over FireWire to a computer, the camcorder has to be able to play back 720p video in the first place. And since it lacks that capability, there is no way to use it in order to capture 720p video to a computer.
All Canon HDV camcorders can record and play back 480i and 480p video (after all, 480p is recorded to tape and played back the same way as 480i -- as interlaced video -- except there is no difference in time between the two fields of any frame, which is what keeps it progressive). Hope this helps, |

HV10 Playback
That does help, thank you.
What about 24-fps versus 30-fps playback, at any resolutions? -Scott |

Sorry Lou, there is no 720p playback capability on any Canon HDV camcorder. Not even the HV20.

The reason I asked is because the HV-20 is 24P and not 24F and I thought maybe the HV-20 would have the capability of playing back 24P from let's say a SONY. However, I have never tried it.
