HV20 Won't Turn On / Charge

My three week old HV20 has suddenly stopped working, it refuses to power on (tried with two externally charged batteries) and no longer shows a charge light when connected to power. Anyone else have this happen?

Remove the battery, actuate the reset button, replace the battery, and see if you get powered up then.... Let us know if you get it back up.

Gave the reset a try, no luck. I called Canon who told me to send it to the local service centre. I hope this all works out!

Update: I sent my camera away on the 12th and know it was received by Canon because I checked with Royal Mail. I've been away on work since, I returned yesterday expecting a letter that would let me know the status or even better a fixed camera. Nothing! No email, phone call, letter or camera. Not impressed. I'm going to chase them up tomorrow.

Same Problem - returned for replacement

I had the exact same symptoms with my HV20 after 2 or so weeks. I took it back to Best Buy and while showing them how it didn't work etc, and they did see it not working, they kept playing with it and it did finally start working again. I still exchanged it for another unit as it obviously was an intermittent problem, maybe a short or something, and I'm certain it would have happened again. I had ridden down a limestone bike trail a couple of times with it before that happened, and wonder if the vibration may have contributed to the problem. It was in a Trek storage pack on the back of my bike, not in a suitable padded camera case. I plan to avoid subjecting the new one to that type environment in the future.

Same dead HV20

I took a new HV20 to China. It quit after 2 weeks on the road. Just a black screen. Locked up tight. I tried new batteries, new tapes, RESET button... everything. It suddenly started working again, then quit again, then started again. Canon said send it to them. They aren't likely to fix it if it isn't failing when it gets to them. Plus, I lost a week of my trip. Oh, well....
