HDVSplit -> AE -> Microcosm -> Avid

I’m learning about HDV 24p.

I have After Effects 7 and Avid Xpress Pro HD 5.2.4(Cant upgrade Avid because of current system limitations).

I am thinking my workflow should be:
•Digitize w/ HDVSplit
•Perform 3:2 pulldown using AE 7
•Export from AE7 with the Microcosm codec
•Import into Avid for editing

Does this look correct?
Would anyone do anything different?

Thanks,
Rastus

Hi,
I have been using a method using free tools developed by few people in this and other forums. The method is HDVsplit->Steve's tool -> avi file -> NLE.
Steve's tool is a self-executable file (needs .NET though) which uses
1) Avisynth,
2) DGIndex
3) VirtualDubMod

Its described in detail in this thread. (http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=94235).
The thread title is a bit confusing because steve initially developed this as a Vegas Script.

I did try using AE (trial version) but output seems worser than Steve's (can be due to codec choice). You might give it a try though.

I edit on Avid also and what I recently found to work well is use MPEG Stream Clip (freeware) to remove pulldown and export as a QT in the DNxHD 175 codec. Then, you can edit in a true 1080p24 HD project.

AE is fine, but it is extremely slow.

I have HDVsplit but haven't used it for capture, but that would work fine (I've been working with Console, so no tape).

EDIT: I use Console for my A1 footage, not my HV20. But MPEG Stream Clip works well for either.
