Component out faulty

I have been using HDMI output up to now but when I tried the component output there was no red channel signal. After much swapping of connections I found that the Canon-supplied cable was to blame - if you wiggled it where there is a black connector block the signal appeared.
It's a pity that Canon used a non-standard cable. At least I don't have to return the camcorder.
