HV20 at 25p with Final Cut Pro

I have an HV20 arriving tomorrow, and I wondered if anyone has used it at 25p with Final Cut Pro*.

Does the "HDV - 1080p25" easy setup work correctly with the HV20?

Are there any gotchas or tips for Final Cut users with the HV20?

Thanks,
Will

*I have Final Cut Pro v5.1.4.

I have used it right out of the box with Final Cut Express.

I use the easy setup of HDV-Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i50 - and it just works, including QuickTime Conversion to Still Image. Only minor problem is, that the stills are 1440x1080, so you need to scale them in Photoshop or something else.

Different cam, same question...

I've been shooting with a JVC HD250 and just yesterday used the HDV 720/24p settings for FCP with success. I think if you have any issues with finding the camera, you'll need to plug it in and have it powered up while loading FCP. If you don't, you may very well lose some hair...

Good luck!

Well, I got the camera. Sadly it's raining here, but I did a test sequence indoors and imported into FCP.

1080p25 seems to work OK, though it's early days and I'm going to read up more on HDV in FCP.

Is anyone else working with 1080p25 in Final Cut Pro?

Are you really 1080p? Not interlaced 1440x1080?

Will, I use this camera with FCP. Whilst the FCP preset 25p will import the footage mine will show the clips format as interlaced, but playing the clip at 100% shows no interlacing at all.

I also have the A1 and doing a hot swap with the cameras whilst in the capture window I can cure the interlaced reference.

In the FCP clip browser highlight a clip you have just captured and press 'the apple key and 9' to get the clip info, what does it say? 1080i or 1080p25.

It shows the compressor as 1080i50, which is what I'd expect. My sequence on the other hand is 1080p25 and works correctly when I put clips into it, with no interlace artefacts and doesn't require rendering to view (though on my iMac G5 I need to render to get decent performance).

Hmm, when I drop 1080i50 clips (shot in 25p mode) onto FCP's 1080p25 sequence mine need rendering. I would not expect HV20 clips to show anything other than 1080i as the 25p mode is recorded to tape as 1080i.

Does it make a difference which device control preset one uses e.g. HDV Firewire vs HD Firewire 25fps?
