Jack Felis got a new cam...
Hey guys, some of you who know me know that I've been a longtime Canon GL1 user and, I'm sad to say, I have to inform you guys that my trusty old GL1 has died. The tape transport finally gave out and I just couldn't see the point in paying the $400 to get it repaired when I could spend a little more and get an HV20, which gives me a lot more, minus some ease of use as far as manual controls go.
Some of you who have visited REDUser.net may remember my NAB rundown where I gave a negative review on the HV20. That was true, the image I was getting on the NAB show model wasn't very pleasing and I was thoroughly disappointed. However, I happened to be in a local Best Buy inbetween classes and they had an HV20 on display. To kill time I played around with it and the image was light years beyond what I saw on the NAB model, now I realize of course that I should have checked the settings more and seen if someone had a bad setting on it or messed with the chroma levels or something before giving it a bad review like I did . I apologize. Now of course, I'll have to set a spot to put my GL1 on display in memory. I placed my order for an HV20 this morning and I can't wait to get it! Glad to be part of the HD(v)/24p crowd now!
