Hdmi Output
I am familiar with the quality of output you get from the HV10 AND 20 when using the component output (softer) vs the FW (more contrasty) output, when fed to a large screen HDTV.
Has anybody used the HDMI output ?? Should I expect to see ?.....anything in between, or the same unaltered video quality of the FW output quality. Thanks Luis |

I have used the HDMI out and it seems too contrasty or something. I have a Sharp Aquos 45" LCD 1080P. I watched footage shot on my XLh1 via component for the last 8-9 months so I know how it looks. The same footage from the HV20 through HDMI was seriously crushed. The black levels are much too low. I hated it at first.
However I found and option in my TV setup that says HDMI config. This is seperate from the normal color and picture controls. In the HDMI config I can specify input YUV 4:4:4 or 4:4:2 and RGB or YUV etc. One setting says Dynamic Range: Normal or Extended range. It was on normal. I chose extended range and it looks great! I am not sure if this is how it should be or not. I previously had my cable box hooked up via HDMI and it had been set to normal and it looked fine. For some reason I had to change it for the HV20. I have no other HDMI capable TV or devices to test this on for now. So be aware of this when you hook it up just in case. Peace! |
