SD + HD on Same MiniDV
Hello!
Just received my HV20 today! The manual warns not to tape SD and HD footage on the same MiniDV tape. Is this really necessary? What is the danger in taping both formats on one tape? Thanks! |

The camera seems to do some internal "rebooting"/switching when it hits different format parts of the tape, so you won't get a smooth cutover, so only do it inbetween footage sections. It might reset the timecode counter also.
I'd bet it will drive your NLE capture nuts :) and could be very confusing over firewire to your PC as well switching from HDV to DV connection (which might not even be possible while still plugged in.) You may have to do separate capture passes. |
