Fun at the Arcade

We spent the weekend at The Great Wolf Lodge in Willimsburg, VA this weekend. I took along the HV20 and left the Canon XH-A1 at home. The first thing I cut together is the arcade footage. It was very dark the only lighting was from the games and the overhead lighting was only blacklights. The HV20 did fairly well in low light.

Settings used were 24p cinema mode, awb and mostly handheld and some monopod (tight quarters in there).

I will also have footage from Busch Gardens, Colonial Williamsburg and the rest of The Great Wolf Lodge.

I used Apple's new Web Gallery feature! It's great for forums like this. It comes in three different sizes and you can make them downloadable all with the click of a button!! I love it!

Nice video. The HV20 amazes me; the low light performance looks better than my big chunky FX1. I checked out your gear on your website, and I just have to ask... how come every person who uses a M2 Redrock (or something else similar) uses Nikon lenses? I know that the Redrock allows Canon AF lenses... why would you commit such a blasphemy putting a *cringe* Nikon lens over your L series Canon?

I really didn't give it much thought. I studied the forums and read the magazine articles of what was giving the best final image. It was overwhelming the positive response the nikon glass received.

Thanks for the compliment on the footage! That little camera amazes me. More to come later on today!

You say you recorded 24p and cine mode. Did you do anything else to the footage besides capture in iMovie and upload to the web gallery? It looks very nice. I think I may renew my .mac account now..

That place looks pretty cool. I wanted to see the kid eat it on the flow rider but not get hurt ,just to see what would happen.

No that was it. I think though that iMovie does NOT do 24p so I am sure it came into iMovie 1080 60i. I cut it first in Final Cut and followed the JES Deinterlacer method.

Cheers Brad

Planes make a good subject. I'm fairly new to Vegas so was just using it as an excuse to have a play with some settings really.

I was thinking I might take some of the footage and play with the velocity envelope function - could probably come up with some interesting stuff!

Very nice looking images. I personally enjoyed the smooth creamy effect of the filter. Gonna have to check it out.

Looks like you shot 60i and deinterlaced to 30p? If so, that would have also softened the image just a tad.

DRIST: report on their 3rd music album

This interview was shot this weekend with the Canon HV20. I interview three of the members of the popular alternative rock band Drist (well known for their two songs on the Guitar Hero games for the PS2), while three of their brand new unreleased-yet songs are previewed.

YouTube version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXLWMxmQ_84
Here is a better quality version of the video, iPhone/PSP-sized (75 MBs): http://www.gnomefiles.org/files/drist3.mp4

I had trouble with the mono sound recorded by the clip-on mono mic and a bug on Vegas that exported my faded in/out photo slide-show with horrible artifacts, but apart of that, I think it came out pretty well. Feedback is appreciated, of course!

Some new HV20 Digital Stills

Uploaded some new pictures from my HV20 here.

Including some CS3 panoramas and a nice shot of the moon at full optical zoom.

1:1 crop of a 1920x1080 digital still.
The moon was very bright so I had to set the aperture to 8.0 and turned the exposure dial all the way down.
