vertical lines on video - hv20

I am currently editing in FCE and have noticed vertical lines on my video when the light levels are decreased, see attachment.

Does anyone know what could be causing this?

1. The gain on the camera has been cranked up high

2. The CMOS sensor is damaged

Most likely is #1, assuming the screenshot you provided was post processed. If that is the original camera unprocessed video, your CMOS sensor is damaged.
