Well, that's a good question. I've been editing DV for many years now, and I maybe 4 or 5 times went back to tape for one reason or another. So, for me its not a normal routine. But, I wanted to bring over some footage I shot to my daughter's house to play it through HDMI to her large 1080p flatscreen to watch. I don't have a Blue Ray burner yet, so this was the only option to see close to native 24f footage from this camera.
I've also had some bad experiences with DVD disk going bad (perhaps they will be better on Blue-Ray, don't know yet) for one reason or another after just a few years. I have tape all the way back to the 80's that still plays fine, so I'm giving some thought to putting final edits back to tape for archival reasons. I right now have a couple of terabits on HD, but that fills up too fast for archival. I think a $5 tape is best.
Lastly, I'm the kind of guy that HAS to know everything about EVERYTHING I work with. When something isn't doing what I expect it should, I HAVE TO know WHY! Call me a perfectionist, excessive compulsive, or whatever name works for this, but it's just how I do things. Makes life more difficult for sure, but "whatcha gona do"?
