I have recently been considering purchasing something along the lines of what you are suggesting for my camera in the form of the JAG35XL.
And after much research I have found it seems to be very important to get the fastest lens possible - in ALL cases I would suggest that for the extra $20 you go for the F1.4 lens rather than the F1.8. As you really want as much flexibility as possible especially when shooting indoors. As cheaper cameras with lower end zoom lenses loose light as they go through the zoom range, this means that as you are focusing on your DOF adapter you might find yourself unable to film indoors or in poor lighting conditions without artificial lighting. Making what seems like a small difference between a 1.4 lens and a 1.8 very important.
