Two Wired Lavs into HV20

Can I use something like this to have the HV-20 power two wired lavs in its mic input?

1/8" Dual Mono Jack to 1/8" Stereo Plug Y-Adapter - RadioShack.com

I know the mics have to be powered by a 9v or something (the ATR35s), so does this split the power?

The HV 20 will not supply power to microphones through its audio input jack; it is not phantom powered.

If powering the mics is not an issue, the adapter might work but I question what the quality of the result will be. The best way to do this is to use a mixer or perhaps a Beachteck box of some sort.

I know it doesn't have phantom power but I'm talking about 9v electret condenser power, not 48v phantom.

Chris,

The ATR35s is powered by an included 1.5V LR-44 type alkaline battery. It requires no other power. Thus, you would need a plug adapter like the one you specified to connect two to the Canon HV20.

You will discover the HV20 has a very noisy amplifier, and that the lovely images it captures are not well matched by the audio it captures. You will start looking for solutions to bypass the amplifier, and will either choose a JuicedLink pre-amp/mixer, or follow Commandment One (of the stickied Ten Commandments) and shoot double system.

Chris, This will work fine.

Ok, thank you. Yeah, I have a bunch of mixers and preamps but none of them are battery powered, so this is my outside solution. :)

other option

Chris, I just got a 30 last week and I also need to have twin inputs. The radio shack adapter when in use blocks the headphone jack so is not an egonaomic option. Rather, I made a Y cable with a stereo jack going into the camera and a mono plug on each end of each lead. Much better than the adapter and it leaves the headphone jack free
