Canon HV30.. Is it worth it? at DVinfo.net

Right well after glancing at this forum I came across the HV30, not knowing anything about it. I am a media/film student however at the moment but havent ventured anything further than a Sony PD-170 when it comes to cameras. SO, my question is would it be worth me buying one of these as im working on my own project this summer.

HOWEVER, im also saving for a car, so the price tag that this bad boy comes with is a bit much for my part time job wage =\ so is there a similar camera, thats cheaper?

The previous model, the Canon HV20, has been discontinued but can sometimes still be found for sale new at a cost which is $200 to $300 less than the HV30. There's not a lot of difference between the two models, certainly no difference in image quality.

(Edit: sorry for quoting the difference of cost in USD, I have no idea what the pound equivalent is!)

I was thinking a similar camera with many of the settings the HV30 has but for a cheaper price.. i've tried ebay and there still a bit pricey

I do like the sound of the HV20, thanks for that link too although im going to scout the internet for a cheaper price tag.. dont forget, im a student haha

Keep a close watch on the "for sale" sections of these forums. Here in the US several very slightly used almost brand new HV20's sold for around $550. They were all NTSC and I haven't paid any attention to what PAL versions are going for used.

Ebay can stay very pricey on stuff like this.

Weird - the hv20 is more expensive than the newer hv30 on amazon.co.uk, and on the jigsaw24.com site, the hv30 is only 20-30£ more than the hv20?

why is this? sounds like hv30 is the one to go for if you want new?
