Canon HF10/HF100 - is 1440x1080 mode 4:3 or 16:9?
I'm thinking of buying one of these and notice that in the lower quality recording modes, the recorded resolution is 1440x1080 instead of 1920x1080.
I know for HDV the 16:9 aspect resolution is maintained using non-square pixels, but is this the case for these cameras? In other words, is the image always 16:9 regardless of which of the four recording modes you shoot in? Thanks in advance, Glen. |

Yes, HDV or AVCHD 1440x1080 has a pixel aspect ratio of 1.33 to maintain a 16x9 image.

Many thanks. I guessed that was the case but it's good to have it confirmed.
Regards, Glen. |
