I don't believe that the HV10 cannot shoot 16:9 SD, at least the HV20 can. There is probably one menu setting for HD/SD and then another for widescreen. I suppose it just defaults to 4:3 when you switch from HD to SD.

The music sounds like a ripoff from Tangerine Dream's soundtrack to the "Risky Business".
