Canon Optura PI
Does the Optura PI use the same battery as an XL1s? It looks as if they are the same size. I am thinking about getting one and it would be great if it was the same model battery.

Sorry, the Optura uses the BP-511 series, similar size but the contacts are wrong. That series is used in the ZR series of camcorders as well as the Canon G1 and G2 digital still cameras (and now that I think about it the D-30 and D-60).

Same batt fits the Optura 100MC and 200MC, and EOS 1D digital still camera as well as the other models Jeff mentions.
Here's the deal with the Optura PI... if you can find one anywhere at all, get it. This is the ultimate 1-chip camcorder and it's a shame it was discontinued. It has a larger, very nice 12x lens that is more wide at the wide-angle than most. Optical Image Stabilzation. Progressive Scan CCD. Back-loader so you can change tapes while it's on a tripod. Advanced Accessory Shoe for using the better DM50 stereo mic. Large flip-out LCD display. And the secret weapon no one knows about, an RGB filter for approximating the look of a 3-chip camera. On a good day in the right conditions, an Optura PI can come very, very close to matching the look of an XL1 or GL1. The PI is well worth every penny of $900, *if* you can find one. If you have an opportunity to pick one up at any price new or used, I highly recommend it. Hope this helps, |

Thank you both for the reply. That is to bad regarding the battery. It would have been nice to be able to use the assortment of batteries that I have for the XL1s.
Well the Optura PI that I had a line on just sold. So now I have to go back into search mode. If y'all here of one please let me know. |

mikeysbistro,
I should have bought yours! Now I have to wait for another one to come up. The GL-2 will be a great replacement, which I am sure you will be very happy with. |
