Thanks For Junior
Thanks Chris for setting up the Optura Junior Watchdog site!
I purchased an Optura XI in Jan of this year (right after I was "restructured" out of a job...good thing to do when unemplyed?) and it has been a joy to use and own. I'm new to video and did not have a lot of money to spend on a camera but needed something decent. I had been renting a Sony TRV 950 for shoots I was doing and when I saw the image quality of the XI compared to the 950, I was blown away. I felt I had made the right choice for my step up from the ZR 40 that was my first camera. As the year has progressed, I see more and more good stuff about the XI and this web site further validates my decision to buy it. Hopefully sites like this and other user reviews will increase the availablity of after market accessories specifically for the XI. I've since gotten a new job with a video production company. I think my little XI helped in getting it since a lot of footage from it is in my demo reel. Thank you and the others who work so hard to make DVINFO.NET the best resource for video info. dp

Many thanks Dave, that's greatly appreciated!
The Optura line is fairly well supported by third-party manufacturers and I'm planning an article covering Century Optics lens attachments available for the current Optura models including the Xi. Stay tuned! |

Yes, Chris, thanks for setting up this forum! I have a new baby coming into the family and am preparing to purchase a home video camera -- sold the old VX1000 so I could get a new model that is smaller, easier for amateurs, and has an LCD. Choices seem to be the new Opturas 30/40, the older Xi, the Panny 953, and the Sony 950. I must say that the price point for the Opturas is sweet compared with the Sony 950.
Same old question: what would be the best camera for someone who shoots video professionally to share with amateur family members who just want to point and shoot? First assignment: baby birth with no artificial lights. Thanks. Pam Primary camera is JVC500; NLE is Canopus. |
