Head cleaning for GL-1/GL-2
I know it's probably better, but more expensive, to send my GL-1 off somwhere to get the heads cleaned professionally, but I was wondering if the store bought Canon tape head cleaner would do the trick...I've heard those aren't good for the camera..but it recommends using one in the GL-1 manual. I don't need the head cleaned at this very moment (it was professionally cleaned by the previous owner), but I would like to know for future cleaning.

For end user head cleaning, the standard MiniDV dry cleaning tape is the best bet. Any name brand should do ok. Run the tape per the instructions furnished with the tape and the camcorder manual, usually on the order of 5-10 seconds per cleaning.
The cleaning tape does add head wear, thus the short application. If several application of a cleaning tape do not clear an apparent dirty head problem, it is time to send the camcorder in for formal service. Canon is usually a good choice for service.
