built in mic

Is there any way to turn off your standard mic on the gl2. I got a shotgun mic to fit in the accessory shoe and want to turn the stock mic off. Is there any way to do this?

To my knowledge of the GL2, once you plug it in, then it automatically turns it off...

Alex is correct. Just plug the external mic into the Mic hole.

Tim,

Regardless of where you mount the mic, as soon as you insert a plug in the mic in jack on the side of the camera, the cameras built in mic is electrically disconnected.

No no no there is no plugin, It transmits all the sound from the shoe into the camera. There is nothing pluged into the mic spot. it's the MD 50

Tim,

Sorry bout that, didn't understand which mic you were using. On page 74 of the user manual, it appears that if you select "shotgun" on the DM 50, it would only record audio picked up by the DM 50. The other two "stereo" modes I'm guessing would mix the DM 50 with the on camera mic. Couldn't find a DM 50 manual so can't tell for sure.
