GL2 Problem. Help please!

I have a big problem with my gl2. Okay, the cassette housing for my gl2 is stuck in the "eject" position. It wont go back in. Ive been surfing around the web and here but couldnt find anything about it. On top of that I have the "remove cassette" error. When I turn the camera on, the light next to the custom preset turns on for about a sec. I cant even put in a cassette because the camera ejects it right back out after about 10 seconds (note: the cassette housing doesnt go back in when I put in the tape and close the tape door.). Sometimes when I put a tape in it eats the crap out of it then ejects it.

I already tried to put in another tape (which resulted in the tape being eaten). I tried switching batteries, didnt work. It just happened all of a sudden. The only possible answer I could come up with is "condensation", because of the sudden change of weather here. I live in Minnesota. Anyone have an explanation? Thanks in advance!

Re: GL2 Problem. Help please!

I haven't owned my Canon Gl2's in a while, but it seems tape ejection issues were common. Another common issue had to do with the zoom rocker. I see a few posts about ejection issues here on this forum. You might do a search and see what pops up. Beyond that, it sounds like you need to send it to Canon for repair.

Re: GL2 Problem. Help please!

Look for something, perhaps as simple a scrap of tape, jammed in the mechanism of evidence of soemslight physical damage to the mechanism internals.

Tape mechanisms often have sliding contacts that make and break depending on the tape loader position to tell the system what to do. If the contacts wear, or become corroded or dirty the mechanism will become "confused" as to its state and that can result in loading errors and/or tape being eaten. If a system reset does not clear the issue, service is indicated.
