Auto Power off
Occassionally when using my GL2, the camera will stop responding and the message Auto Power off! will flash on the screen, then the camera will shut off. WHen I restart, it works fine. Canon told me that this was normal, and that the camera will shut off after five minutes to save the tape from stretching. This sounds rediculous. Most shoots go much longer than five minutes in between shots. If the camera shuts down every five minutes, that would just plain suck. Has anyone else experienced this?

RTFM.
In the menu you can set this to just turn off the VCR so the tape heads don't go crazy. |

This is a design feature of the GL2 and is controllable. Like the XL1s you can set the cam to only shut down the the recording portion of the system. See page 36 of your manual for details.
