New GL2

Hello All,

My church received our GL2 today and I am all smiles. I do have a question on what type tapes to purchase and where. I am leaning toward the Panasonic AY-DVM63MQ or PQ. How does the Panasonic MQ compare to Sony's version? Where is a good place to purchase them. Need info as soon as possible since camera will get is first trial run on Sunday. Thanks for all the information prior to this message and I am eagerly awaiting any responses.

Ryan

Panasonic Tape

I use 63MQ and 83MQ exclusively. So I cannot compare to Sony. Not likely to find such tapes locally. I usually buy from Pro Tape:

http://store.yahoo.com/protape/panminandful.html

The prices are always competitive. And I gotten very good service. If you want the tapes by Sunday, best to get the two-day shipping.

Another source is Tape Resources:

http://www.taperesources.com/

The prices are usually just a bit more. The service has been very good.

One other source you might check is Total Media:

That's where I buy all of my PQ tapes.

I also use and highly recommend the Panasonic MQ tapes.

But the most important thing is to pick one tape brand/model, and stick with it. Many people have reported problems mixing tape brands, especially Sony with non-Sony. It can apparently gum up the heads, possibly requiring cleaning/repair by the Canon factory service center.

Have fun and enjoy your GL2! It's a great camera!

I use Panasonic MQ tapes as well, and buy from bhphotovideo.com.
