GL2 stored near the ocean?
Hello,
I have a GL2, about 2.5 yrs old now and I just recently moved to the ocean. Prior to moving here I was at the beach regularly filming surfing but now I am oceanfront and am curious about the effects that the salty atlantice ocean air can have on my camera? I have started keeping it in a ziplocked bag - unsure of whether or not that will do anything though. Does anybody have any suggestions? Also, when I am using it on the beach, would it be a good idea to tape over any buttons that would be exposed to the air so as to prevent the cameras insides to any salt air exposure? thanks JR |

"Salt air" really means trace amounts of chlorine in the air. This alone would not hurt the camcorder in the term of it's life expectancy. But salt air together with condensation allows the chlorine to become choride ion, which is very corrosive. That's why metallic things subjected to morning and evening dew corrode quickly in salt air. It's not hard to protect your unit from condensation--you've not doubt been following the rules for doing that for a long time.

Matt, perhaps you meant "Fijan."

Oh, I noticed your Calvin Coolidge quote on persistance - he is a famous Fiji, a nickname for the fraternity Phi Gamma Delta.
