Sending GL2 to Canon? Any suggestions?

Hello everyone,

Well, I just bought my GL2 about 1 1/2 ago, and used it for my first wedding. Everything went fine, except, on some daylight shots, I noticed a black smudge. It turned out there is a LARGE white spec INSIDE the lens. I'm sure it's in there!

I did a search and read the info on these forums and it seems everyone’s recommendation is to send the cam back to Canon.

Any body had any experience doing this? How long will it take? Do I just send it, or do I have to call Canon??? Any info on this subject will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!!

Regards,

Hello Emilio,
It's wise to first contact a Canon service center. Here's Canon Mexico's Photo & Video page which will lead you to support contact information.

Some things to consider. In the USA the XL1 turnarounds is fast, on the order of a week. The GL2 turn around may take longer, but many folks say it is fast for a consumer camcorder often under 10 days.

Send a sample tape showing the effect /problem as well as an accurate verbal description.

Pack it well.

As Ken suggests, speak with the Canon customer service people first to get the latest information about shipping, service time, etc. The USA has service section in NJ and CA, pick the one most convenient to you. Not sure what the Canon service situation is for Mexico
