LCD glitchy

I've had my GL1 since 2000, and haven't had any of the problems I've been reading about over the years (dead pixels, etc) but recently the LCD screen stopped working unless I turned it all the way around until it flips over. I saw another thread where someone had a similar problem.

I'm thinking of opening up the LCD and dinking around, but wanted to know if anyone has opened one up, and what I can expect. Are the ribbon cables that come unplugged easily accessible? (do they come loose in the main camera housing, or in the LCD housing?). Will I need to solder anything?

Any help would be appreciated. I don't want to send the camera off and blow a few hundred dollars on a 7yr old camera.
