EF-S lens on 5D, here's what happened...

So, what happens when you try to attach an EF-S lens to a EF mount? This thing falls out...

CANON EOS 5D Mark II Focusing Screen Installation Instruction

Scary! good news is all you have to do is just put it right back in and snap the tray closed, but that will freak you out man!

Can't quite tell from the link - does removing the focusing screen allow you to use EF-S lenses?

EF-S doesn't have enough coverage for FF - the vignetting will be outrageous.

It was an accident. I would not attempt it especially at a wedding.

Tokina 11-16 is one exception.

Although I'm a bit confused by the subject title vs. the provided link, I wonder if anyone knows how well those split-image focus screens work on a 5D2, using an external monitor (V5600 5.6").

Exception in what way? In that there's no collision with anything or that it covers the sensor?

They would work exactly the same as the current screen - they have no effect in any way on video mode, whether using an external monitor or the built-in LCD. They are designed to improve manual focus when looking through the viewfinder and are thus only useful for still shooting.

maybe he means that at 16mm this efs lens is usable at 16mm or 15.5mm on the 5D.

I have this lens and on the 5D 16mm is wider than at 11mm on the 7D.

Re: EF-S lens on 5D, here's what happened...

Well,
All I can tell you is when my assistant tried to attach the EF-S lens to the 5D that screen popped out. Someone pointed me to that link after asking what this thing was and if I could fix it myself. Be warned :)

Yeah, thats what I meant and how I use it. No problems with the focus screen clearing the lens.
