Which DSLR baseplate to use a 5D MKII with the V1.0 RR Micro FF?
Hi all:
The headline says it all. I have a 5D MKII and a Red Rock Micro FF v1.0, the bigger, heavier one made for 35mm adapter rigs. I have tried Frankensteining together a rig with all of the baseplates and rods that I have laying around but nothing puts the RR FF in the right height and front to rear orientation for using with my Canon 5D MKII. Anyone else using an older Red Rock FF with their 5D MKII? Which baseplate setup are you using? Pros? Cons? How high does the baseplate have to raise up the 5D MKII to successfully use the FF and a matte box? I am looking at the RR Micro baseplate and the Jag 35. Forget the Zacuto, my lack of funds precludes that as choice this year. Any feedback or advice is appreciated. I have this perfectly good $600.00 FF, a matte box and a bunch of expensive glass 4x4 filters sitting around that I might as well put to use with my 5D MKII. Thanks, Dan Brockett |

You can use your existing baseplate/rods/FF configuration but you need to add a riser like this:
