BBC Green Lights Use of VideoDSLRs
I thought this was worthy of its own thread. BBC4 has approved the use of the 5DII for a recent drama. Here's the link.
HD Magazine - HD Mag - BBC Green Lights Use of VideoDSLRs According to this report it was the strength of the images coming out of the 5DII that trumped the previous issues that the BBC had with this camera. |

Presumably they tested it through some sort of compressor that would emulate transmission? That'll be the real test, to see whether it holds up on broadcast.
Interesting stuff. Steve |

BBC4 is a standard definition channel and their drama budgets aren't huge, so that could be a factor. The sometimes surreal BBC decision making process can be interesting to watch from the side lines.
An editing friend was rather impressed with the DSLR material that he's been testing for a drama. The camera is being used to shoot in car footage and the compact size makes a lot of sense in those confined spaces. |
