Ways to preview and rough cut 5D .mov before conversion using Vegas?

Is is possible to preview the .mov file, rough cut into timeline and convert just the selected footage using Vegas?

I know FCP is able to do that w/o converting every single second of the footage. After selecting "in" and "out", I just need to send the selected footage into compressor for Prores 422. I like this method as it is time saver and save HD space.

I'm using Vegas 9 and Procoder as the moment and is considering to switch to FCP. Thanks.
