Will WD TV HD Media Player play native 5D2 files?
I just found this link to a media player that may play 5D Mark II files natively...
http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/canon-eos...rd-reader.html The review on this unit are very good... WD TV HD Media Player Review ? The Gadgeteer Anyone with experience with this unit? This could make playing native 5D2 files on my HDTV a piece of cake! Just hook up a large hard drive filled with video files! |

I will check it out tonight. I play a lot of 1080 mp4 renders from Vegas on that, so I don't think there should be an issue, but I will confirm tonight. Nice think about the media player is it takes most any USB device in. Seems like I should be able to have a flash card reader plugged into to do immediate previews of shots on a monitor.

I am pretty sure when I tried it out that it did not work and I had to convert it into a H.264 file that the WD liked.

I think that I read somewhere that the new firmware made it compatible with native 5Dmk2 files (or maybe it was wishful thinking on my part).
Chris, thanks for checking it out. I may be headed to Best Buy tomorrow to see if I can try out a unit (with some unused gift cards that I have laying around)... |

Just hooked up the WD Media Player. Loaded a 5DMKII Mov file to a thumb drive and
the WD is playing it right now... the Video is playing perfect, the audio is not. There is no audio. But I think the 5D sound is easy to fix.... I'll get to working on it this weekend to find a fix... but of course the file will no longer be native after I fix the audio... yes, I did ensure I had the latest firmware updated... Just connected a VUNOW box... no go for 5DMKII there at all.... what would be ideal if we could get VUDU to allow playback... thats a real nice movie box... I'll write them to see if they are interested in the morning... |

Thanks Ray... That's disappointing news... I was really hoping for a non-transcoding solution... Do you have the latest firmware update?
If the WD Media Player does not work, does anyone know of a solution to play native 5Dmk2 files from a large hard drive? |

I just played it off my passport hard drive. Plays fine, except, no sound. So who is going to ring up WD support and ask them to include play capablity for these files..

I think they have a WD rep over at AVS forum... that seems to be how they are
getting the feedback for the firmware updates... might need to post a question over there for the WD rep as a request... |

Here's the post I placed on the AVS forum...
"I have a Canon 5D Mark II camera. The video from this camera is amazing! But from what I have heard, the WD TV plays the video fine but not the audio. Is there a solution to the audio problem? If so, I know A LOT of 5D Mark II owners that would LOVE to buy this media player... It would sell like HOTCAKES since there is not a quick and easy way to view a large collection of these video files on our TVs... Has anyone tried using the analog RCA outputs? Has anyone tried using the TOSLINK output to see if the audio work there? Thanks so much!" If we all post something similar, then maybe WD would be willing to make a firmware update to support the 5DmkII... Anyway... It's worth a try... Western Digital - WD TV HD Media Player - BUG LIST & FEATURE REQUEST thread - Page 69 - AVS Forum Thanks... |

Vote to add this feature
You can "vote" for adding 5D Mark II file support on the UserVoice site. The more votes, the more likely they will add support.
Sadly, only 12 votes so far! Support for Canon 5D MkII Video -Darin |
