I have read only about 1 hour of shooting time. I haven't had the opportunity to run mine all the way out yet, but I haven't had much time to experiment. Haven't seen a reasonable price online for extra canon batteries, where they are actually in stock.
I have a 24-70mm f/2.8 L and a 32GB CF card being delivered on Thursday, so I should get more testing in after that.

My camera is being delivered this week, and I also ordered an AC Power adapter. Right now it looks like batteries are being sold for as much as the adapter, by some, so I just decided to go that way, until they are in supply again.
Canon | ACK-E6 AC Adapter Kit | 3351B002 | B&H Photo Video I am going all manual lenses, so it will be interesting to see if my battery life is more...

manual lenses
I am strongly considering some manual nikon lenses. Which lenses / adapter are you using? I have read that although expensive the novoflex adapter that B&H and others sell is worth the money.

based on another discussion on threads here, I bought 5 kawas-something, advertized on ebay. They will remain permanently mounted. They have not arrived yet. In rumaging through my old camera bags, I also came across four Pentax K mount lenses.... I ordered 2 adapter for that too.
I may have to do some filing and snipping to avoid mirror interference, but we will see. Camera here on Thursday.

It depends on how you're shooting. I've gone a few hours with a single battery ( in the cold) but that was turning camera off in between shots.

The 5d uses the LP-E6 battery and the BG-E6 battery grip.
Vistek sells the battery for $120 Mostly Digital seems to have the best Canadian price on the grip: Mostly Digital : Canon Battery Grip BG-E6 for 5D Mark II |

SRP on the Battery is $79.99 as I understood.... so these guys are selling at premium. Like I said, you could get the AC adpapter for that price, and it will be something you will be glad to have..

I got a DC-DC converter from Hutech so I can plug it into an auto or marine battery. How long it lasts depends on how much weight you can carry. :)
I will use it for timelapse shooting. For more normal stuff I use the Canon AC adapter. I'm waiting for our Chinese friends to crack the battery chip so I can get 4 or 6 $15 batteries without losing digital readout. |
