Audio recommendations for 7d
Me again just brought my 7d and love it, now i am looking to get some better audio recording gear for it any recommendations ?
I have my eye on the juiced ds214 and the H4n zoom but not sure if these would suit me for short film work. I have a budget of around $300aus dollars. |

Re: Audio recommendations for 7d
I bought the Mixpre-D, and love it. Spend the extra money on the under the camera mounting bracket. Marry it up to any decent mic, like the Rode VideoPro, or even your average 'standard' shotgun and you have a great way to get audio in, monitoring it on the way with headphones. You can then, if needed, run into a recorder. I had a Zoom and would never buy one again for video work, though for recording musicians live it was fine. I have also tried the Tascam HD-P2 (very nice but bulky, my sound engineer loved it), but have settled on the marantz PMD661. this is a fabulous piece of low end professional gear, used by many news gathering agencies as I understand it (our local radio station uses them for example). It has a standard line in capability, along with mic in. No messing around with padding the input devices. It is superb for voice work. The next level up is the Edirol, if you think you are going to need 4 channels in. A field mixer beyond the mixpre may also be needed if you are doing a lot of work with multiple microphones (like recording groups).
Enjoy the 7D and it's new updated ROM, which allows at least minimal manual audio adjustments. It was the least they could do to keep us all from moving to the GH3!

Re: Audio recommendations for 7d
Brought a juiced link 213 pre amp. Had to play around a bit to get my work flow happening but seemed to work well even managed to split the left and right audio ie used two mics, though I had some issues with noise on mics provably wont do that again unless im desperate.
Also brought a rode video pro which complements the 213 as this mic has the 3.5mm jack. Thanks for the replys guys |

Check out the Tascam DR-60D in the audio forum ... just awesome for DSLRs.
