T3i external HD monitor
New to DSLR and a little confused on the search I did, so hoping someone knows . . . Can I monitor an HD signal out of the HDMI output of the T3i?
I do not have Magic Latern installed (reading mixed reviews about it on T3i). Thanks!

Re: T3i external HD monitor
Hi Ralph, answer is no you cant, well not in HD anyway.
The HDMI output is only SD during record. Playback via the HDMI is in HD. Magic lantern is great, worth a try and works fine on my EOS600D john |

Re: T3i external HD monitor
From what I understand this monitor solves the SD resolution problem with the 5D/T3i - and provides HD on Record and Output for Canon and Nikon Cameras - 5.6in 1280x800 On-Camera Field Monitor - the DP6 by SmallHD - You can download the User's Manual to read about it.
Cheers! |

Re: T3i external HD monitor
I picked up a Jag35 monitor, which I believe is a rebranded lilliput or similar. Jag35 Monitor | Jag35.com
Two questions: For a T3i, what cables do I need? Will it be able to display in HD, and will it have the "shutter/squeeze" issue? And I believe I need a battery adapter. What should I use that is cost-efficient? Thanks! |

Re: T3i external HD monitor
You'll need a mini-HDMI to HDMI cable. The T3i will let you focus in HD, but as soon as you hit record you will see a stretched SD image on the screen.
The DP6 mentioned above is a solution for those who wish to keep the monitor feed at Full HD when framing or shooting. |

Re: T3i external HD monitor
Make sure you get a HD monitor if you do get one, I've used a "HD" monitor that the resolution was only 800 x 480 so it doesn't really help to use a monitor other then framing shots. When I compare it to a SONY HD Monitor (which is like £2000 mind) you can tell the difference instantly.
