Err 20 on my t2i... is she dead?!
Hi everyone,
I got an Err 20 last week at the end of one of my club photo gigs.. I took it was a fluke cause it didnt come up again. Last night at the end of my gig it came up again.. and has not recovered. It won't do anything but bring up the Err 20 screen. It seems as if the shutter is not opening or closing all the way or is staying open. Any ideas on if this is fixable? On another note i mainly do wedding videographer and nighclub photography so im looking for an upgrade anyways. Any suggestions.. the 5dmarkii is just out of my price range right now and i need a new camera fast. Suggestions... 60d or 7d? i also thought about just picking up another cheap t2i and waiting for the new announcements. Any help would be amazing! Thanks again Andrew |

Re: Err 20 on my t2i... is she dead?!
I wouldn't say its dead with an error 20, just might need some TLC. I think Err 20 is just a problem with the mechanical action of the cam (shutter and mirror).
Check to see if it is an issue with the moving parts and very lightly see if its binding anywhere... I would send it in to Canon if its nothing you can't explicitly see and let them redo whatever the problem is. Send it in for a quote to fix it and see where you stand. Would be cheaper than a 60D or a 7D for sure unless its catastrophic. On your other point, there is no video difference between the 7, 60, and T2i as far as I have seen - however, 60D does have manual audio gain so thats something to consider. |

update:
i just nudged the shutter alittle bit and seems to be working now.. but who knows for whole long. Also it seems like my almost dead battery comes up with the error and my charged battery it doesnt have the problem.. Also in terms of photo quality what are we looking at for 60d vs 7d. Andrew |

Re: Err 20 on my t2i... is she dead?!
In regard to photos, 7D vs 60D is really anybodies game in terms of IQ. Both are essentially catering to prosumer markets, and they do have antialias filters on the sensors unlike the 1D series so image quality is essentially identical, given similar if not identical sensors.
The main differences are that the 7D is a more sturdy build, and the auto focus is a dream compared to the 60D. I shoot with a 7D and have shot with a 60D, and I highly prefer the ergonomics of the 7D although they really are not that far apart and depending on the shoot, I wouldn't rule one out against the other. |

I hope getting it serviced cures your problem inexpensively, but if it doesn't I have this 60D in the classifieds here http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/private-...ts-extras.html
Good luck, in any case. |
