H1 + Azden WMS-Pro VHF wireless mic + T2i
So I've been using this simple setup to record my interviews and I can't figure out why the volume is so low?
azden wms-pro vhf wireless mic zoom h1 I set my H1 to record in 96khz/24bits, level to 100. I sync it up in post but I have to boost the volume levels in FCP. It gets really tricky when my interviewees are soft speakers. I suspect it is the azden wms-pro's fault, getting volume between -24db to -12db in a quiet small room can't be right. Or maybe I should switch to the H4n? I still feel relatively new to DSLR video production so solutions or suggestions would be appreciated! |

I don't think it's the H1 as I use the H1 with a cheap Audio Technica Lav mic and never had a problem with it being too quite with that mic. Unless it's a specific problem with your H1, because when I put my level up to 100 it was nearly peaking with the softest of speakers.

The H1+Audio Technica Lav Mic produces great quality! But it seems to force me to choose between...
1. Subjects can freely move but I'm unable to monitor sound (H1+Lav on subject) or... 2. Ability to monitor sound but have to deal with a wired subject (H1 on cam+Lav on subject) I'm trying to figure out an ideal setup where I can monitor sound, have a wireless subjects, and have decent volume. |

Yeah, would be a bit of an issue if you had a moving subject, I've only used it for sat down interviews so far.
