Scratched LCD Viewfinder

Don't ask how. Let's just say it's scratched and leave it at that. Not so much that it's unusable, thankfully, but it's not ideal, either. Anyone have any solutions to a scratched viewfinder? It's along the bottom left corner, and the scratches are deep enough that they can't simply be "buffed out".

thanks!

Re: Scratched LCD Viewfinder

Hi David,

Is it the LCD screen on the camera or an 'accessory' viewfinder? If it is the camera is it still under warranty? I completely cracked my T2i LCD. It was still under warranty but I expected to pay for the repair. I got back within a few weeks and there was no charge.

Re: Scratched LCD Viewfinder

It's over a year old- just barely. I'll have to re-read the fine print but I had assumed it wasn't going to be covered. Yes, it's the actual LCD viewfinder... not critical, just annoying and the beginning of probably many dents as it gets used...!

Re: Scratched LCD Viewfinder

That's why I pay up to $35 for something like the Giottos glass protector. It goes on with a thin adhesive "frame" and so has a tiny bit of "standoff" from the LCD itself. It is removable (pry off from a corner with a very, very thin blade) as I have switched one to another camera.

I have one on the 7D and one on the T2i. Doesn't help you now but for future use (next camera or after this one is repaired) it gives a lot of "peace of mind". This glass layer takes the initial impact, allows quick and worry free cleaning, and may save an LCD from even somewhat severe impact.

The only camera I haven't put one on is the 60D as it looks like the articulating LCD won't close with the LCD facing inward if I put a glass protector on. I may consider those "peel off" flexible ones but for now I just exercise care and keep it with the LCD facing inward when not in use.

Re: Scratched LCD Viewfinder

Google is your friend. This is what I've found. The tutorial is for the 5D but it is probably the same for the t2i. Ebay has the 5D screen for $130 but I couldn't find one for the t2i, so I've listed the Canon parts info.
