Matching 7d Footage
What is the best non-DSLR camera for matching footage with the 7d/T2i?

I've seen a lot of nice stuff shot on the Sony EX's. I have a Canon H1 and A1, and they intercut fairly well (though you can't get the same image form a video camera).
I had better luck when I mixed footage shot on my Canon A1 with the letus Extreme along with 7D footage. The look was much closer with the more controllable dof of the Letus. Bruce Yarock Yarock Video and Photo |

I've been pretty happy cutting together footage from the Sony EX1/3 with 7D footage.
Image quality wise they are pretty comparable, but as Bruce points out, if you really want to get the looks to match you need a 35mm adapter for the video camera so the DOF is a little closer. Having said that, if I know I'm going to use both cameras on a project I stop the 7D down a little and use a longer lens on the EX [longer hyperfocal length] to match them up a little better. Even if I shoot entirely with the 7D I try not to have a shallow DOF in every shot. |
