Sharpening
Those of you who shoot flat, how are you sharpening your footage in post? I've been trying out some free plugins in FCP but haven't had very great results. I'd love to hear how different people do this.

A lot of people use unsharp mask but I haven't gotten great results with that. Personally i use the NewBlu sharpening tool (I think it's in one of the film tools packs)
But then you are on a Mac arn't you

If you want to sharpen the video, I would suggest going with the flat picture style, but then changing the sharpness to what you desire before shooting. I put the sharpness 1-2 notches below the middle when I want it sharper than the flat picture style. Looks great!

I generally shoot on primes and rarely have to sharpen. When I use a doubler or a mirror lens I add a little sharpening in camera - which seems to work well.
If I have to sharpen I use After Effects. BTW I shoot with sharpening set to zero and contrast set to one. |
