Canon Utility Wipes Metadata
It has to be said that the metadata features for this camera's files border on non-existent, but the least Canon could have done was to protect the "shooting date" metadata.
I have recently tried organizing my months of footage taken on the 7D to realize that all the footage has the datestamp of when the footage was ingested onto the computer, rather than the date and time that the shot was recorded. I have spent many hours using special utilities that can change the date inside a file to get the files into roughly the right week/month that they were recorded and learnt my lessons the hard way. Some advice for others: use a CF Cardreader to copy your video files accross. If you do that you will maintain the original "date created" data in the files. If you use the Canon utility, it will replace the "date created" info with the date that it copied the file to your computer. |
