1.0.9 update is out

Canon EOS 7D Digital SLR firmware

That was fast. I'll see if I can figure it out tomorrow.
Quote:
Firmware update Version 1.0.9 incorporates the following fixes and improvements:
1. Improves AF accuracy during Live View shooting.
2. Corrects a phenomenon where in rare instances, movie
images shot by the camera may exhibit abnormal colors.
3. Corrects a phenomenon that at certain timings, the shutter cannot
be released when the camera's built-in flash or an external Speedlite
is used for shooting.

I just got my 7D last night and am trying to update the firmware.
Do I have to get 1.0.8 update before I do 1.0.9?
I googled and searched but couldn't find 1.0.8 update anywhere.
Mine says it's currently 1.0.7 version.
Thank you for your post and all the help.

JJ

You go upgrade to the current one1.0.9 this contains all the other updates as well. the older 1.0.8 is not necessary.

I tried to move the firmware file (as the website states), but it keeps saying "the file is not supported on this device. Although the device supports unspecified files, it does not support .fir files."
The CF card is formatted.
Again, sorry for the rookie trouble, but your help is much appreciated!
Thanks.

JJ

*EDIT: I got it, I got it...

My 7D arrived this weekend and is already 1.0.9, so I guess the new 7D batches are all up to date.

I got mine Friday and it's 1.0.9 as well.

It appears the moire issue is addressed:

Tramm,
is there a separate page for contributing to the 7D efforts, or just use the PayPal 5DMkII link?

thanks for all your work.

The moire issue is not addressed, it's identical in 1.09 as it was in 1.07. That akihabara shot is focused at different points, therefore invalidating it as a comparison. Look at the text, you can see how significantly focus shifted between shots.

I shot charts on a tripod immediately before and after updating the firmware, for the most exactly comparable situation possible. Moire is no different (and, the release notes didn't say they were fixing anything there either, so it was not to be expected).
