Why would I buy something other than the 7D?
I'm exhausted with chasing gear... Just a couple of years ago my JVC HD110 was all the rave and I love the camera, but time and progress march on. I'm looking at the new alternatives and I'm stunned at the quality productions I see coming out of the new Canon's!! Why would I buy anything else. I do some broadcast commercials, some documentary stuff and a lot of just shooting ENG for work. What are the limitations that I'm not seeing on this camera??? Great lenses (that don't cost 10K), shallow DOF at will... The specs say 1080p at 30p, is it true? I mean is it a real 1080??? The camera is much lighter, and you can carry several lenses to adapt to what ever you are shooting that day. And when it's all said and done you drop the 7D body in the trash and move on to the next great thing for under 2K, all your lenses, filters, ect... just move to the new one. This sounds to good to be true. Is it? How about sound, will the audio gear that I have now work with this camera (I know I will need some adapters), but can you capture professional level audio with say a Senn G2 system? How about work flow with CS4?? Ok I know I have rambled a lot here so I will stop now. What say YOU???

we're all tired of chasing gear.... stay calm.
when you have a "prosperous business" and you get well paid for what you do, i believe miniscule amounts of money (1700$) for a cam body shouldn't be a problem. The shoes i wear to the field should cost more than that. if not: then my watch should be at least. If you have a "prosperous business" but you have lot of kids or a wife who blow up your credit cards every weekend, then i understand your concern. either WAY... you're in trouble. anyway ;) I'm sure when you bought the JVC, at the time it seemed like a wonderful choice for you. You pulled the trigger, you made a CHOICE, and you certainly have lived that choice for a while now. You change your mind? want something else? well..... that's the way it is. there's a BIG RAT trap on the 7D regarding FAST WIDE angle LENSES. i personally havn't been able to find anything faster than 2.8 in the 10-35mm range for the 7D without blowing up my wallet. Sweet cam, no LENSES. what a shame. |

Hi Jerry, everything you're asking here has already been previously discussed, so just go through some of the other threads here and in our 5D Mk. II forum as well. There's no such thing as 1080 that "isn't real," we've got lots of topics about how to handle audio for D-SLR's, and the main thing that's missing is a video lens, i.e. a motorized lens with zoom controls on the tripod handles where they belong.
I'll post some links to some relevant threads, but meanwhile I've got to shut this one down because it's familiar territory that we've covered too many times before. The answers to your questions are already here on the forum; just dig in. Hope this helps, |
