Canon 1DC Price Drops $4,000 on 2/1/15
New retail price for the Canon 1DC will be $7,999 starting this Sunday.
Interesting move by Canon and further complicates those looking to purchase a new camera in the next couple months. There are so many good choices in the $5,000-$10,000 price range and we still don't know what will be announced at NAB in April. |

Re: Canon 1DC Price Drops $4,000 on 2/1/15
Thanks for the 1DC tip Kyle. I may seriously look at that. I love my C100, but this week I was shooting video to Pro Res with the C100, and RAW stills on the 5D2. Shooting Stills and Video on the same shoot is tough enough - never mind dragging two cameras around and swapping from one camera to other all through the shoot without an assistant. But I do love the C100 form factor and audio, and ND's, and push focus, and peaking, etc... after using the 5D almost exclusively for 5 years. I wasn't as busy then as I am now.
My philosophy is to get as good a camera as you can afford, make your choice, and stop looking for awhile. Use it as long as you can and still make money with it... But then my last vehicle retired with over 300,000 miles on it. I had barely opened the box on my C100 before the Mark 2 was announced... c'est la vie Either way, there are so many great choices out there. But I do feel your pain.

Just don't be fooled into believing they'll announce it April 13 and you'll be opening the box from UPS on April 20th. ;-) |

Of course not -- but say for $12k-ish.

I think we're going to see a new 1Dc and C300 coming for NAB.

Re: Canon 1DC Price Drops $4,000 on 2/1/15
Agreed. A C300 Mark II and 1DC Mark II are very likely to be announced at NAB.
We all know what improvements Canon will probably make to the C300, but I'm not sure what they can add to the 1DC to justify paying an extra $4,000+. I'm also curious how this price adjustment will affect the used market. If 1DC's drop below $6K it may hurt C100 Mark II sales. |

I never really understood the 1DC and it's place in the market.

Re: Canon 1DC Price Drops $4,000 on 2/1/15
It does seem like the 1DC has been pushed out of the market by more traditional videocameras like the C100/C300/FS700. When it was released the DSLR revolution was still in full swing so people were willing to overlook the lack of proper video functions (ND, viewfinder, audio controls, etc) and awkward form factor. Now many shooters have moved past the DSLR stage and into something like the C100 or FS700. As Vincent Laforet put it, the C100 was a DSLR killer.
I still see a place for the camera with photojournalists who want to capture both wonderful stills and fantastic video. It's also a rugged, portable, and reliable workhorse for doc and live event shooters. |

If it had 10-bit (or more), I'd surely had lashed out the $15k when initially released. -- peer

Peer, you would really have paid $15k for that just because of 10bit? To each his own but that's a big penny for a few more bits!

Re: Canon 1DC Price Drops $4,000 on 2/1/15
I fully appreciate what Jim Jannard has done to push digital media forward - we may still be shooting HDV otherwise - but RED gear is epic-ly priced.
I have thought many times about the scarlet mx, But it's not the base unit price, so much as all the proprietary accessories. I had a friend who has had an Epic since 2011, and I pulled focus on a feature for him. We had so many issues with that early build...the early adopters were beta testers. The Scarlet Dragon starter kit is 20k, plus almost another 20k in recommended accessories. Not trying to slag RED at all... but you have to be ready to shell out money. The 1D-C is getting close. And at 8k, it's worth considering. I came across this early review of the 1D-C by Patrick Moreau at Still Motion. Canon 1DC Review: Our Firsthand Experience -
