Late post to an old thread: Yes, this can work as I've tried it just to see. However, the Mix Pre-D with batteries plus the XL-Cam attachment is more than twice the weight of the C100 handle. For gun and run this doesn't make much sense. The preamps in the C100 are more than good enough for most gun-run scenarios, such as recording dialogue. For critical recording of quiet ambiance, effects, etc, simultaneously with video on a tripod, then I can maybe see a use case. But in that situation, many (myself included) I would imagine record audio externally. I used to use the Mix Pre-D digitally into a Marantz PMD 661. Lately, I have use of a Sound Devices 633, which trumps everything.
