Re: best LANC control for C300
Those lanc controllers don't really control focus do they?
I have not tried, but I thought the USM motors wouldn't support focus. |

Re: best LANC control for C300
Yes - The lanc control does allow you to adjust focus.
I have a Manfrotto Pro Lanc controller and it works fine. But whether it's better than adjusting the focus directly is another question. Another advantage is that it allows you to turn the camera off or to sleep which is pretty handy as it takes less time for the camera to become active than with the switch on the camera body. The best thing would be for you to take your camera to a dealer and try one out to see if it would work for you. |

Re: best LANC control for C300
I remember Manfrotto had announced two electronic remote controls for pulling focus in Canon DSLRs. How are they? Will they work with the C300? I have not had any experience beyond reading the press release. Curious to know.

Re: best LANC control for C300
Are you guys saying that the LANC controllers for XF105 and 305 don't work on the C100 and C300? (I know the C100 is not shipping yet).

Re: best LANC control for C300
Seems to be conflicting post here. Does the Libec ZFC-5HD control focus? I know it controls zoom and start/stop record.

Re: best LANC control for C300
So can anyone confirm that either the Manfrotto pro or Libec controllers DO actually adjust focus on the C300? (or any other LANC controller?)
This would be extremely handy if any of them work, and work smoothly.....

Re: best LANC control for C300
I'm using the Manfrotto 521PRO on an XF300, and while Ihave not had this camera long, I have not been able to make it adjust focus. IIRC it worked fine in this respect with a Sony HC1 Everything else works OK with the XF300.
Just looked it up in the Manfrotto Lanc controller pamplet, and it specificially says no push AF with some Canon cameras http://www.manfrotto.com.au/PDFPages...ontrollers.pdf [EDIT] responding to Derek's question above, the 521PRO gives me the same smooth control of zoom speed as the main camera zoom control, and it puts the camera to sleep and wakes it quickly. The push AF control on the 521PRO also locks in a slower zoom speed.

Re: best LANC control for C300
Thanks, Trevor
But I'm specifically interested in if any LANC controller will adjust focus remotely for the C300. There is no possibility of zoom control on these cameras due to the type of lenses they use, so the only functions of importance would be focus and/or aperture. Either one would be an asset, both would be spectacular. Anyone have any information in this area?

Re: best LANC control for C300
It seems I was too hasty in dismissing my Manfrotto 521PRO's ability to adjust focus on my XF300. Push AF still seems to be beyond it, but I discovered today that when the 'Manual Focus' LED is lit, the rocker does indeed adjust focus. It's a bit slow, and in bright daylight, I would not want to rely on it without Peaking switched on, but yes it does work.
