Inexpensive D-Tap/V-Mount Power Solution

Hello all,

So, just received my HyperDeck Shuttle 2 today thanks to B&H. Love those guys.

Before I purchased it, I was trying to figure out how to bypass the $150.00 cable option for D-Tap power off a V-Mount battery and I found one.

I own a SmallHD DP6 and have a D-Tap chord for that which costs $29.00
SmallHD Pro Battery D-Tap to Male Barrel Adapter Power Cable, 45 in
Problem is, the barrel plug on the end of that is a 5.5 OD and 2.1 ID which won't work on the HyperDeck which is 5.5 OD and 2.5 ID.

After some Googling around (wow, you can get so much more done with the Internet) I found this:
PAN-DCA-52521J 2.1mm Jack - 2.5mm Plug DC Barrel Adapter | Vetco

It's an adapter that changes the 2.1 to a 2.5.

Just tried it out and it works great.

NOTE: You need to make sure your TIP is positive or you can ruin your stuff.
The other cool thing is that the Small HD cable has a built in 12-volt regulator (at least mine does) but it wouldn't matter because my batteries only put out 16 volts when fully charged.

So, hope this helps someone out.

Re: Inexpensive D-Tap/V-Mount Power Solution

It does;

Although I don't have v-lock batteries, I was struggling to get the right tip for BMD's power socket, I have a rechargeable 10,000mah battery mounted on a plate at the back of my rail, it provides the 2no 5v supplies required for my video wireless transmitter and HDMI Splitter and also the 12V needed for my field monitor, so adding in the Shuttle seemed logical.

The battery unit is Ģ38 all in, so I bought 4 of them!

They are good for about 90mins of shooting each, plus I also have a spare 12v feed for a camera top LED light if needed too!! (Home made 12v dc splitter used)

Re: Inexpensive D-Tap/V-Mount Power Solution

I put together my own power solution based on a v-mount plate with d-tap socket, and d-tap to 2.5mm DC cable. Here are the links:

d-tap to 2.5mm DC jack $10: D-Tap DC Cable fr DSLR Rig Power Supply LED light V-mount Anton Bauer Battery | eBay **Check the polarity of the cable first before hooking up - it can be backwards to what you need.
v-mount plate $32: BP Battery Adapter Adaptor V-mount Mount Plate fr IDX Sony D-Tap Power DSLR Rig | eBay
