Some of the best footage yet from Pocket Camera
Philip Bloom posted this. Some of the best footage I've seen yet. I believe the description said was all shot handheld (with a zacuto support rig) using the Panasonic 7-14 f4 and 12-35 f2.8 IS lens. I think the dynamic range really shines in the video. Video was shot in 30p, and slowed to 25p in post, to give it a slight slowdown. I love doing that myself, have used that trick many times.

Is the camera not able to do blacks? The darker scenes have a hazy blueish cast that looks like early LCD projectors.

He used some sort of film grain on the footage, and also color graded in Colorista. Maybe that was something he was going for.

Re: Some of the best footage yet from Pocket Camera
Thanks Jeff for posting this.
That’s more like what I would expect from Bloom. My first viewing with the soundtrack in all its glory was a pleasure. Second viewing with the sound muted in order that I might more easily concentrate on the footage. I like it. The blued blacks are all the rage right now and that is ‘stylistic choice’ and you and I may choose differently. I didn’t find it overdone in this instance. Interestingly in his comments he vehemently defends the dynamic range capability of the Pocket camera versus the GH2 even though ‘I don't even like this camera that much!!’, he said. British humour or push back against the GH2 fans? Whatever, I wouldn’t take him too seriously. |
