Re: Black Magic 2.5K cameras now for under $2000.
I agree, Alex was just pointing out reality. Maybe the problem is a generation gap. Some younger folks perhaps have not seen the huge leaps in technoglogy / cost savings that some of us older ones have.

Heck, any of us who've been around for a while can tell similar stories. I remember paying about $15k for an IBM 386 PC in around 1988 - Had to buy a two card "Hi resolution" controller to get 1024 x 768 resolution. I remember when 8 MB of memory cost $2 Million - and it was REAL money - maybe 30 x that in today's terms.
The hardware and software we all use today is dirt cheap by historical standards, |

I too had got the email. The price drop pushes the barrier. I am happy that other manufacturer's have to fight back. The C100 was launched to take away a chunk of guys who were moving to the BMC. So manufacturer's do respond. Customers will be the winners.
There will always be a few customers who will have cognitive dissonance due to the price drop. Once I had ordered a 4x4 SUV and it took 3 months to get delivered due to my demand for the right features and colour etc. Barely a month after I received my SUV there was a price drop of slightly more than 3000 USD. It was a bad taste in the mouth, though I was enjoying my vehicle. Similarly after buying MKH 416 microphone for 1200 usd, the price got dropped by 200 usd within 2-3 weeks of buying from B&H. You have to take it in your stride. It hurts more when you have kind of virtually scrapped the barrel to take every penny to buy an equipment. Do we ever complain when we get a windfall or when an unexpected project materialises? If we don't crib during that time, why crib only when we lose money? It's life. In the long run things even out. |

Of course, the key is how much use you get out of the equipment.
I bought the 5D2 in December 2008, have gotten lots of use and experience with it, and I don't care what the price might be today - it's still a useful camera. On the other hand, there is equipment that I've bought, used once, and then left it to collect dust. Regardless of the price I paid, I didn't get my money's worth. (Sometimes, the dust collectors are products that disappoint. More often, they collect dust because it turns out that I wasn't as interested in an activity as I thought I'd be.) So regardless of what you pay, make a good attempt to get your money's worth from the equipment. :)
