History Boys, from stage to screen, what's missing?
I have not seen History Boys the play but before seeing the film had read many reviews which said it was good but very flat when compared to the fantastic stage version.
I went to see the film and really thought it would make a fantastic play but agreed that something was missing with the film. The script is great, witty and funny, the acting is excellent but I've been trying to work out what it is that is missing that makes the film so flat and dull. Technically what is the missing ingredient, how is it that a succesful stage script can end up worse when moved to screen when with cinema there are so many more tricks that can be used to maintain the interest. I really can't put my finger on what is actually 'wrong' with it...
Anyone have any thoughts?
