Pi / Man Bites Dog / Stranger Than Paradise
watched theses three enigmatic b/w films recently on DVD.
all in pseudo-documentary or outright mockumentary style. all deliberately challenge suspension of disbelief. i'd love to read any comments you guys might have. |

I thought Pi had some nice moments, but I saw it AFTER Requiem for a Dream, and it seemed like an exercise for Requiem for a Dream.
Man Bites Dog... Héhé, it makes me a bit proud, being from Belgium, that this movie is own of our most-watched movies in foreign countries. I liked it, but I had expected some more. I had heard about it for years, what a brilliant movie it was, and such expectations can only fall down. Stranger Than Paradise... thought it was nice to see once, but I didn't think it was so special. A movie that's also in this style, was Smoke - but realistic. A movie I only saw last year, didn't have high expectations of, but blew me away. Such human characters, such a simple, but beautiful movie. Have you seen that one? I wasn't a big William Hurt fan before, but he really exelled in this movie. |
